The Monroe Historical Society

The Monroe Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization that was founded in 1976 and opened its Museum in 1982 in Monroe's original two-story City Hall building at 207 East Main Street where it is still located on the ground floor. As well as a wide-ranging collection of local historical artifacts, the Society maintains a variety of local history resources available on a limited basis to members and to the public. The society sponsors quarterly social events for members and guests (on the third Thursday of March, June, September and December), provides and hosts the displays at the historic Shannahan Cabin during the annual Evergreen State Fair, and participates in many other community events and activities. New members are always welcome and cash donations are always most welcome and are tax-exempt. We also welcome donations of artifacts, photographs, documents, and information on Monroe-area history.
